God bless Rick Steves. The legendary world-traveler found himself home-bound for the first time in decades. He talked about it on his podcast (and elsewhere I’m sure). He used the time to churn out a new book. He still engaged his fans through multiple touch points. And while it must have been challenging to find yourself homebound, especially for someone who travels professionally and travels at least 6 months out of the year, he persevered.

Wanderlust in Overdrive

I live to travel. No, I love to travel. The yearning for the road (or the plane) has only gotten stronger and it was in over-drive during the pandemic. I came to realize that while travel has been great the few weeks a year that I get to pursue it, I want to do it full time. Non-stop. Full out. I’m not sure if this is due to pent-up-demand from being tied to my house for 18 months or rather the evolution of what would have come out at some point anyway. I’ve always talked about traveling when my husband and I retire. But then I realized that I didn’t need to retire to travel.

I know this may sound like a “duh” to many. Of course, you don’t have to retire to travel. But for me, I had so many other priorities that took precedent. Such as, get my children through school and college; save that nut for the eventual formal retirement; live the…
